Española Valley High School Welcomes Caleb Holbrook as Head Football Coach
Española, NM — May 12, 2025 — Española Valley High School is proud to welcome Caleb Holbrook as the new Head Football Coach of the Sundevils. With a dynamic background as a collegiate Hall of Fame quarterback and championship-winning professional player, Holbrook brings exceptional talent, deep leadership experience, and a powerful commitment to student success.
Holbrook played quarterback at Oklahoma Panhandle State University from 2012–2015, where he helped build a record-setting program and was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in 2019. He continued his football career as quarterback with the Arizona Rattlers and the Iowa Barnstormers before transitioning into coaching, including recent work with the Duke City Gladiators and Los Alamos Hilltoppers.
Superintendent Eric Spencer expressed excitement about the new addition to the Sundevil family:
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Holbrook to Española Valley. His leadership on and off the field, his commitment to mentoring young athletes, and his belief in building a program that begins with trust and community buy-in are exactly what our students need. He brings not only experience, but purpose. He understands that football at the high school level is about more than competition—it’s about life lessons, discipline, and unity. I’m confident he will continue the momentum we’ve built and help us take our program to the next level.”
In his remarks, Coach Holbrook emphasized his belief in the transformative power of football:
“The game of football saved me. Growing up in Texas without a father figure, it was my coaches who became my role models. I intend to be that same guiding presence for the young men of Española. This program is going to be built on relationships, responsibility, and resilience.
We’re not just building a varsity team—we’re creating a unified football community from pee-wee to high school. Every young athlete in the Valley who dreams of playing under the Friday night lights will be part of this journey. I’m here to serve this community, and I’m asking our families, alumni, and supporters to walk with us. When teams come north to play Española Valley, they’re going to know we’re a force on the field and in our hearts. Go Sundevils!”
Holbrook’s vision for the program includes long-term alignment of youth, middle school, and high school teams, an emphasis on character development, and renewed excitement and pride in Sundevil football.
Española Public Schools is excited to welcome Coach Holbrook’s talent, heart, and leadership to the district, and looks forward to the impact he will make in the lives of students and the broader community.
