The 2025–26 State Conference at Las Lunas High School marked another milestone for Espanola Valley High School and its dedicated Student Council members.
EVHS has proudly participated in the State Conference since the 1990s, beginning under the leadership of former advisor Beverly Averitt. What began as a commitment decades ago has grown into a lasting tradition and strong expectation of involvement in all New Mexico Association of Student Councils (NMASC) conferences.
Building Leaders, Year After Year
Each year, attendance at the State Conference provides EVHS Student Council members with valuable opportunities to:
Network with student leaders from across the state
Share innovative ideas and best practices
Develop leadership and organizational skills
Complete impactful state-level projects
Celebrate and showcase Sundevil pride
Through workshops, collaboration, and friendly competition, EVHS students continue to grow as confident and capable leaders—both on campus and in the wider community.
Student Council of the Year Journey
One of the highest honors at the State Conference is Student Council of the Year. This prestigious recognition reflects a council’s dedication to:
School-wide initiatives
District and state projects
School spirit activities
Community service events
The journey toward this award begins immediately after each State Conference concludes. From that moment, the council works diligently to meet all requirements. A comprehensive binder documenting their projects and achievements is submitted during the first week of January, where it is carefully evaluated by retired educators.
Gold Achievement & Platinum Status
In 2025, EVHS Student Council once again demonstrated excellence by earning the points required for the Gold Award. Remarkably, this achievement marked the fourth consecutive year EVHS received Gold honors.
With four years of Gold recognition, EVHS has now earned Platinum Status—a testament to the council’s sustained dedication, leadership, and impact.
Earning Platinum for 2026 marks the beginning of a new legacy for EVHS Student Council. As the Sundevils continue to raise the bar, they proudly carry forward a tradition of excellence, leadership, and school spirit that has defined EVHS for decades.
Go Sundevils!
