EVHS MESA students recently participated in an exciting rocket competition designed and led by engineers from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The project, developed last summer, aimed to give students a meaningful and hands-on STEM experience. After two preparation sessions focused on design, feedback, and refinement, students successfully launched fifteen rockets—each fully built by students using 3D-printed components, paper, and foam—on November 14, 2025, at the EVHS baseball field.
The results were outstanding. One rocket reached an impressive 317 feet and returned its egg payload completely intact. Overall, students demonstrated exceptional creativity, technical skill, and perseverance, performing at a level that impressed the LANL engineers mentoring them. Many students shared that they were thrilled—and even surprised—by what they were able to accomplish.
By the end of the event, excitement was high, with students already asking to participate again. Their success sends a clear message: EVHS students are capable of incredible things. An official awards ceremony will be held on December 5 to celebrate their achievements.
