Martina Tapia, Deputy Superintendent
Ms. Martina Tapia joined the Española Public Schools on July 1, 2020.
Prior to accepting the Deputy Superintendent position at Española Public
Schools, Ms. Tapia was the Director of Special Services and Director of
Food and Nutrition for Pecos Independent Schools. While with the Pecos
school district, Ms. Tapia was also the District Lead for Equity
Council, Achieve Excellence and NM DASH.
Ms. Tapia also served as a School Improvement Specialist with the
Priority Schools Bureau at the New Mexico Public Education Department.
While with the Priority Schools Bureau (PSB), Ms. Tapia was the Lead for
Teachers Pursuing Excellence and worked on PSB initiatives -NM DASH,
High School Redesign, Comprehensive School Improvement and Principals
Pursuing Excellence.Ms. Tapia has been a Performance Coach, Lead Coach
and District Thought Partner for Principals Pursuing Excellence for the
last 3 years. As part of Principals Pursuing Excellence, she has
coached principals at Santa Fe Public Schools, West Las Vegas Schools
and Pecos Independent Schools.
Deputy Superintendent Tapia started her career with Las Vegas City
Schools where she taught 8th and 6th grade history for 8 years prior to
becoming an administrator. Ms. Tapia was principal at Memorial Middle
School and Los Niños Dual Language Elementary School. During her tenure
with Las Vegas City Schools, she moved into district leadership serving
as the district’s K-3 Plus Coordinator, Bilingual/Federal Programs
Director, Title I Coordinator/Director, Director of Curriculum and
Instruction and Grant Writer.
Ms. Tapia is a native of Las Vegas, New Mexico and holds a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Business Administration and Master’s degree in Curriculum
and Instruction from New Mexico Highlands University. She holds New
Mexico Public Education PreK-12 Administrative Licensure, School
Business Official Licensure, Instructional Leader K-8 Elementary
Licensure and Instructional Leader PreK-12 Specialty Area Licensure. She
has endorsements in History, Reading, Modern Classical Languages,
Bilingual Education, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages,
Business Education and Gifted Education.
Ms. Tapia enjoys reading, watching movies and cooking holiday favorites.
