Española Valley High School Announces its First Inductee into Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica

Erika Yisell QuezadaErika Yisell Quezada is the first inductee to Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica- the high school’s Spanish honor society. She is now a proud member of Chapter Bendíceme Última- one of only eighteen chapters in the whole state of New Mexico! Her accomplishments do not stop there. Competent in both Spanish and English languages, she successfully passed the AP English Exam and is currently working on completing the portfolio requirements needed to obtain the New Mexico Bilinigualism-Biiteracy Seal on her graduation diploma in May, 2018. When she is not busy studying, Erika works side-by side with her mother doing market gardening and selling their produce, herbs, and flowers at the local Farmer’s Market. Her mother has taught her a love of  “la tierra,” and how to plant seeds in ways that touch the “alma” of the land. She understands and respects the powerful connection between people, land, and culture. It is no surprise that she has chosen the concept of this connection as the major theme for her Seal portfolio. She wants to study medicine and become a physician’s assistant in order to help people heal. She wants to use the knowledge of curative herbs, which she learned from her mother to help others live healthier lives. We are proud to have Erika Yisell Quezada as an Española Valley High School student and we look forward to following her career!
